Faculty Lecture Series - Environmental Studies

    Led by Professor Wagner Quiros, this lecture will explore the fascinating world of sea turtles, as well as their current conservation status and ecological roles within coastal and marine ecosystems. Professor Quiros will cover emerging research and technology, while integrating world law and policy as you learn more about the management of endangered and migratory species.

    Wagner Quiros is a Lecturer in the Environmental Studies program at UC Santa Barbara. He holds a Master's degree in Environmental Science and Management from UCSB’s very own Bren School. Originally from Costa Rica, he has over 15 years of experience working with sea turtle research, conservation and fisheries management at small-scale fishing communities in Costa Rica, and a long career of leading hundreds of university student groups from North America, Australia and Europe through Costa Rica. Wagner also has a keen interest in local capacity building, collective social capital and scientific rigor for policy making, particularly related to Coastal and Marine Resources Management. He is a Latin American Fisheries Fellow, and has the postgraduate career goal to contribute to community managed fisheries in Latin America to achieve sustainable management of their marine resources.
