Faculty Lecture Series - Art (CCS)

    Led by Professor Kim Garcia, this lecture will explore research and process based methods of artmaking. Professor Garcia will focus on how research can strengthen conceptual development and production used to generate work. 

    Kim Garcia is a Sculpture and Spatial Studies Professor in the College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara working in sculpture, drawing, and painting. They are also a working artist, currently based in Los Angeles, CA. Her practice centers on oral storytelling to explore the complexities of inheritance, postcolonial identity, and the lasting effects on history in the present. Kim comes from a background in creating collaborative community projects that often employ alternative spaces to explore studio art practices, site-specific collaboration, and museum and exhibition research. She is the founder of The Cold Read, an online critique group and artist collective that engages gestures of care and support through writing and is one of the co-founders of after hours gallery, an art gallery in Los Angeles that hosts two-person exhibitions.
